We Had a Visitor
The days are already growing shorter at Wildflower. The fragrance of the wildflowers that give this farm their name, hangs in the air. It has been cooler the last couple days, less humid. We have been busy, recovering from a long illness. Getting things organized post pestilence, to get back on track after getting completely knocked down by the malady that struck so harshly.
Life has been slow lately. Lots of time by the new pool. Soon it will be time to prepare for autumn. there are many things to do around here. We will call the chimney sweep, get in touch with the gas company that keeps us in gas for the stove and the heating system for the greenhouse, we will order some extra firewood just to be absolutely sure our butts are covered for the winter. Already I have put out the cozy throw blankets everywhere, and have been busy baking bread, and will be making more bread and granola next week.... You can feel the end of summer in the air... It hangs like a noose over the excessive warmth and the occasional sunshine... Soon the season will be passed and we will be picking apples and going into over drive preparing for winter.
When I woke up this morning I came downstairs and glanced out the glass door into the Night Club, as is my habit. But what I noticed wasn't fresh produce in the large raised bed. Nope, I looked straight through The Night Club, out into the yard. Right up by the house, right there.... Was a giant deer. It was absolutely beautiful. Dr. Farmer Moomin, snuck out into The Night Club, and took this video. It was almost as if it came to see us as a blessing from the woods to tell us the disease that struck us down is now passed. It was such a special glorious moment to be so close to something so beautiful and wild. Moments like this are part of why we live the way we do. The closeness to nature, the innate magic of the natural spaces and living things all around us. They are healing to the soul the mind and the body.
